The world knows Kevin Richardson as the Lion Whisperer, a man’s man, a lion’s man, a Wrangler of Lions.

PINK COOLER BOX?

Yes, a New Age man, so comfortable in his own skin (or khaki) that his favourite ‘meat box’ holding his lions ‘titbits’ when filming is…you got it, a PINK esky (or cooler box in South African).

We were, just as you are, stunned to see a bright pink, and I mean a bright, very bright pink esky used during his film shoots. Meet Kevin and see what a ‘normal’ cool guy he is.Despite being labelled as a Lion Whisperer, he is so down to earth. But what a ‘day job’ he has. He reminded us of our very own Steve Irwin. He had the same larrikin, humerous and fun nature that Steve is affectionately remembered for.

We spent a week volunteering at his sanctuary near Johannesburg and were lucky enough to have our time coincide with a period when he was actually there. So we were able to watch him filming, once with an Argentinian film crew and then with 60 Minutes USA and share social times with him and his lovely wife Mandy on a Friday evening braai. It was a great experience and recommendable to everyone, except if you are vegetarian perhaps, as meat, and lots of it, feature BIG TIME when looking after big cats including feeding lions, black leopards and hyenas.
